A Top-quality Wild Blueberry Crop for Quebec

Crop report, wild blueberries

News & Blog

October 6, 2023

In Quebec, Mother Nature has been kind for the wild blueberry season.

Apart from hail and frost at the start of the season, the sunny and rainy days were well balanced, resulting in another good harvest this year, although not comparable to the 2022 harvest, which was a landmark crop for the region.

In Canada

In the Maritimes, the weather was unpredictable, and this had an impact on the region: there were some good harvests in isolated regions, but a below normal crop for the region as a whole.

In the United States

In the U.S., the harvest period ended almost two weeks before the Canadian harvest. This year, Maine, the largest wild blueberry-growing state in the United States, experienced a tougher-than-normal season, following frost episodes last spring and heavy rain since June. The harvest in this region was therefore not as good as everyone had hoped for.

We are therefore forecasting an overall decrease of 10 to 15% compared with 2022.

In Europe

Across the Atlantic, a significant drop in yield was observed for blueberries, down by almost 40%. More information on the regional distribution of this berry is available from our team.
