Strokes and kidney stones
It is believed that cranberries can reduce the damage caused by a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and fight kidney stones. In laboratory studies on rats, researchers found that a cranberry extract reduced by about 50% the number of brain cells destroyed by a stroke, if administered immediately after the incident.
Other researchers have tried to assess the efficiency of cranberry juice for fighting kidney stones. The result was conclusive because the juice made the urine acidic and could possibly be used to prevent and dissolve kidney stones.
